Guidelines for NSI Awards

Professor D.J. Raski Academic Merit Award

The Professor D.J. Raski Academic Merit Award is open to all members of the Nematological Society of India below the age of 35 years. The award carries a value of Rs. 8000/- and a gold medal will be given to the best paper presented during the contest, which will be organized at the Society’s meeting every two years. All those interested in competing for the award are required to send brief abstracts (not exceeding 500 words of their unpublished research papers) to the General Secretary, Nematological Society of India, Division of Nematology, IARI, New Delhi – 110012 not later than a date announced by the General Secretary.  The submission will be evaluated by the preliminary screening committee and only those accepted will be permitted to present the full papers at the Society meeting. 

The following are the rules and regulations for the Award

  1. The award will be given to the best paper presented during the contest at the meeting of the Nematological Society of India. The award can be given in cash or kind (books or any other item helpful in research).
  2. All contestants must be members of the Nematological Society of India and below 35 years of age.
  3. The award will be judged by a committee appointed for the purpose and their decision shall be final.
  4. In the case of more than one author the award shall be shared equally.
  5. Receipt of an award shall not exclude Scientist (s) from being considered for a subsequent award, but it shall not be given before a lapse of at least one intervening society meeting.
  6. If the work presented relates to the thesis for the award of any degree, the concerned student should present the work and not the guide even though he may also be below 35 years of age.
  7. The work should have been carried out under Indian conditions and should relate to the work done during the preceding two-year period.
  8. The time for the presentation shall be 15 minutes.
  9. The abstract (not exceeding 500 words) should be routed through the department/division
    etc. where the research works were carried out. The work should have been carried out under
    Indian conditions and should relate to the work done during the previous four years. However,
    the research work carried out under NAHEP (National Agricultural Higher Education Project) or
    a similar short-duration programme outside India will not debar the candidate from applying for
    the award. The research work may be part of a degree program, such as M.Sc., Ph.D., or both.
    Furthermore, any part of the research that is published in reputable journals throughout the study
    period will be appreciated (GB dated Feb 2, 2024, held at ISI, Kolkata)

Professor H. M. Shah Memorial Award 

Professor H. M. Shah Memorial Award is open to all the members of the Nematological Society of India. The award, which is to be offered once in two years carries a value of Rs. 10,000/- and will be given to the best contributor in the field of Nematology as evidenced by papers published during the preceding five years. All those interested in competing for the award will be required to send five copies of a write-up (not exceeding 10 typed pages in double space), five copies of the list of publications along with reprints of these papers published during this period. The entries for consideration of the award must reach the General Secretary, Nematological Society of India, Division of Nematology, IARI, New Delhi –110012.

The following are the rules and regulations for the award:

  1. The award will be given to the best cumulative outstanding research contribution during the period of five years preceding the date of consideration of the award. The contribution has to be based on published research papers in scientific journals.
  2. The award will be given in cash with the necessary citation for ‘Best Published Research work done in the field of Nematology in India’ during the five years preceding the years of the award.
  3. The contestant or at least one of the contestants must be a member(s) of the Nematological Society of India.
  4. There could be more than one author in the research contribution, but the contestant must be an author in all the papers irrespective of senior or junior position. In case, where two or more authors are common in all the research papers, which award money will be divided equally among all the authors.
  5. The receipt of the award by a scientist or a group of scientists shall not be excluded from being considered for the subsequent awards but in order to encourage intensive research activities in the field of Nematology, the award shall not be given to the same scientist or group of scientists, before a lapse of two intervening periods.
  6. The work should have been carried out under Indian conditions.
  7. The scientist(s) winning the Award will be required to present their contributions at the Society’s meeting.
  8. The decision of the judging Committee shall be final.
  9. All the formalities for the selection of the awardee (s) will be completed by the General Secretary and the judges well before the next meeting of the Society.

G.I.D’ Souza Memorial Award

Nature of Award:  Dr. G.I.D’Souza Memorial Award

The donor of the Award

Dr. Gerard S. D’Souza, S/o G.I. D’Souza 530 Cherokee Drive Morgantown, WV 26508, U.S.A. 

Value of the Award  

Prize money of the value of Rs. 10,000/-in cash including all connected expenses with a Citation and a Momento.

Periodicity of the Award

The award shall be made once in two years.

Purpose of the Award                     

  • To create incentives for research workers in the field of Nematology to contain losses caused by plant parasitic nematodes.
  • The Award shall be made for a significant basis or applied research loading to result of practical importance in the field of Plant Nematology.

Administration of the Award         

Nematological Society of India shall have the sole right of selection of the recipient of the Award and of the formulation of rules governing such selections.

Eligibility for the Award:  All research workers above the age of 55 years but below 70 years.

Procedure for Selection of Recipient

  • The nomination will be invited by the Society for the award from the members of the Executive Committee of the Society.
  • Nominations received will be screened by the General Secretary and will be finalized by the Executive Committee to be considered for the award, he/she shall not take part in the decision-making process. As per our constitution (GB Dated: 17.11.2011), NSI EC members cannot be considered for any award. After the acceptance of a nomination by the majority in the Executive Committee, the award shall be announced.

Presentation of the Award  

The Awardee shall deliver a lecture at the biennial symposium/conference organized by the Society and one Page profile of the awardee along with the photograph shall be printed in the journal. The full text of the lecture of the awardee shall also be printed in the journal. The manuscript should not exceed 20 pages (typed in double space).      

Dr. (Mrs.) Sudershan Ganguly Memorial Young Scientist Research Presentation Award

The donor of the Award: Family members of Dr. (Mrs.) Sudershan Ganguly contributed Rs. 150,000/- (since 2018)

The following are the rules and regulations for the award:

  1. The award participation is open to all researchers (student/SRF/RA/scientist) up to the age of 30 years.
  2. The research work has to be related to any field of nematology.
  3. The presentation is restricted to five minutes covering an introduction, the importance of the study, results, and discussion. The presentation shall be followed by one-minute audience interaction.
  4. The presentation shall be judged on the basis of work, oration, and quality of slides.
  5. First, second, and third prizes are of Rs. 4000, Rs. 3000 and Rs. 2000 denomination respectively, with a certificate.
